Think of the brain as a computer. Neurologists handle the hardware. We work with the software — how the whole system actually runs.
Pediatric neuropsychology looks at how your child pays attention, learns, reasons, remembers, communicates, and navigates the world. We don't just identify what's hard. We find the root of it — the underlying reason those challenges exist — so your family has a real, evidence-based path forward.
Evaluations at AY Neuropsych may be conducted by clinicians at different levels of training — all supervised directly by Dr. Yang. We collaborate with each family to identify the clinician best suited to your needs, providing full transparency regarding their clinical background and how training levels may influence service costs.
The care and the standard? Those don't change.
Questions? We're happy to walk you through the options before you decide anything.
We bring parents and the school team together — virtually — to walk through the findings and build an action plan together. So the report doesn't just sit in a folder. It becomes something real.
We start with you. Your goals and questions, your child's full history — developmental, medical, school, social, emotional, and cultural. We want to understand the whole picture before we meet your child. Nothing is too small and nothing surprises us.
For prekindergarten and kindergarten students, a classroom observation is a standard part of the evaluation process. We observe your child in their own environment — learning, interacting, and being themselves with peers and teachers. For older children, observations may also be recommended based on the referral concerns and are decided collaboratively with parents and school teams. It’s one of the most valuable ways we gather real-world insight into a child’s day-to-day functioning.
We always start with a conversation. Not a test. We sit with your child, get to know them, and help them feel as at ease as possible before anything else begins.
The office has snacks, prizes, and hot chocolate. If your child needs an added treat to connect, we often try to have their favorite treats prepared for their first meeting with us. Most leave saying they had fun. That is genuinely the goal.
Testing covers the full picture: intelligence, language, memory, attention, visual-spatial skills, processing speed, fine motor skills, academic achievement, and social-emotional functioning. A mix of iPad tasks, paper-and-pencil activities, and listening exercises.
With your permission, we reach out to teachers, therapists, tutors — anyone who knows your child well. Their perspectives helps us understand what's happening beyond our office.
We walk you through your child's complete profile — one domain at a time, using custom visual graphs to guide the conversation. By the end, the findings should feel clear, not overwhelming.
We'll also outline a prioritized plan of next steps. And where it makes sense, we'll connect you directly to trusted providers who can help carry the work forward.
A short, strengths-based conversation — just for your child. What they're great at. How to lean on those strengths when things feel harder. Because children deserve to understand themselves too.
Thorough. Deeply individualized. Written in plain language — not clinical jargon. With visual aids and a prioritized roadmap of recommendations for your family, school, and care team.
Families often tell us it's the first report they've received that is easy to navigate, easy to understand, and it actually sounds like their child. That's not an accident. That's the work.
(limited availability) Dr. Yang works with a small caseload of teens and young adults on anxiety, executive functioning, and building real confidence — using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
We partner with schools to support implementation of neuropsychological findings. Dr. Yang has also presented professionally on ADHD, bilingualism and the brain, and classroom behavior management.
When a full evaluation isn't needed, we offer targeted assessments for specific questions. We have specialized training in the ADOS-2 and ADI-R for focused autism diagnostic evaluations, and provide updated evaluations to track a child's progress over time.
We evaluate adults whose questions trace back to childhood — particularly around ADHD and autism spectrum disorder. Both comprehensive and targeted evaluations are available.
Families come to us when something feels off — but they're not sure why, or what to do next. Common concerns include:
